Podiatry

What does a Podiatrist do?

Podiatrists are independent healthcare professionals who deliver palliative, preventative, biomechanical, pharmacological and surgical interventions to the lower limb.

Foot care is essential for overall good health and wellbeing, it is only when you experience foot pain that you realise the importance of your feet. This is why podiatry is a central part of the multidisciplinary team at The Complete Chiropractic Centre. Our aim is to improve your mobility, independence and quality of life.

Podiatrists do more than look at their patients’ feet. We can identify underlying disease processes which effect our mobility and well-being. With a concise medical history and a careful analysis of your biomechanics and physiology we can recognise factors which cause injury. We can then help prevent further damage.

LET'S TALK: BIOMECHANICS

Assessing your lower limbs from your hips to your toes, it’s all connected.
It’s very important to examine the lower limbs as a whole because they are closely connected. Pain in one area can be due to weakness or structural problem in an entirely different area.

Do you know?

Each foot consists of 26 bones, over 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. Biomechanical assessments treat and aid conditions such as;

• Plantar fasciitis
• Back problems
• Foot deformities
• Podopaediatrics-including toe-walking/hypermobility
• Heel spurs
• Early heel lift
• Limb length discrepencies
• Big toe abnormalities
• Bunions
• Flat feet or high arched foot
• Feet rolling in or out too much.

Sometimes the way you walk is a sign that there is a problem somewhere in your foot/ lower limb i.e; limping sore feet, aching feet are all indicators of an abnormality.

A full assessment checks:

• How you stand
• How you walk
• Range of motion in your joints of the feet and lower limbs
• Test for weakness/tightness in muscles/tendons and ligaments

There are many things your podiatrist can do to help alleviate or correct;
• Orthotics
• Exercise prescription
• Offloading devices
• Padding/protection
• Referrals
• Reducing pain with debridement/removal or corns & callus

We help people keep feet happy and people on their feet as long as possible.
